Sunyoung Choi Cook was born and raised in South Korea. Music first became part of her life at the age of 7, when she started taking piano lessons. Sunyoung first began composing as a high school student, and at the age of 20 she began studying at the Dong-Ah Institute of Media and Art, where she majored in modern music composition. She graduated from the Dong-Ah Institute in February of 2004, and soon after began working at a MIDI music company called Oh-Sung MIDICOM, in South Korea. In 2007 Sunyoung moved to Poland with her family, where she lived for one year before moving to Gainesville, Florida to study English in 2008. Sunyoung studied English in Florida for one year. During this period she also volunteered as a performing musician (percussion, piano, and vocals) in the Arts in Medicine program in the University of Florida's Shands Hospital. In December of 2008 Sunyoung moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to pursue a master's degree in electronic music composition at Duquesne University's Mary Pappert School of Music. During her time in Pittsburgh, Sunyoung worked as a jazz team intern at the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild. In April of 2011 Sunyoung moved back to South Korea, and by 2012 she was working as a video game composer at Xtive Entertainment in Seoul. At Xtive, Sunyoung worked with 40 game companies to create musical compositions and sound effects for over 80 games. The games that she composed music and sounds for include online, mobile phone, and facebook games. Sunyoung moved back to the U.S.A. on October 2013 and taught many different age students at Johnstonbaugh's Music Center in Pittsburgh. She also worked as a church musician in Pittsburgh area. In August of 2020, she moved back to Korea.
